Food Review! J. Gumbo's

I tell you one thing, having to be on a liquid diet for a few weeks does wonders for the taste buds. My cravings for sweets drastically diminished--except for the occasional gummy bear or 10. But now I am really experiencing and loving food even more.

Today on my lunch break, a pal and I walked to the Masquerade sale being held at Palmetto Baptist Hospital. I knew I had to stop and get lunch and with so many downtown choices I had no idea of where to go. So me being me, I decided to stop in at one of the newer restaurants, J. Gumbo's.

Now I absolutely love Cajun food...from crawfish to etouffee' to po-boys to jambalaya. However, I'm always skeptical when the something says "authentic." This was a surprising wake up call to my taste buds though!

From the time you walk in you are hit with such pleasant aromas and you just want to eat everything! It took me a while to decide on which dish I would try (and I was told to pay attention to the heat levels--indicated by hot sauce bottles). I played it a little safe and went for the two-bottle Drunken Chicken. Served over a bed of rice with crusty, buttery, garlicky French bread. Triple YUM!

HUGE servings, for little prices. That always makes me happy. Now I don't have to cook dinner1

I was sooo pleased. I got my food to go and as a matter of fact it has only been a few minutes since I finished eating and already I'm blogging about it! Yummy. If you are in the downtown Columbia area I strongly recommend you try J. Gumbo's. Nothing fancy, just great food.

Black Panther: Movie Review

Please tell me y'all have seen the movie? If you haven't, don't read this post!

Let me give you a little bit of my back story on this Marvel Cinematic Universe. I am a Marvel fan. I don't read the comics, but the movies?! I'm here for them. Some of them are blah, but I watch them anyway. Why? Because usually they overlap and share stories. So, in preparation for the opening of Black Panther, I watched ALL of the Marvel movies in order of the stories, not the release date. I followed CNET's guide and it was pretty accurate. I did not watch the TV shows because I would still be watching. You don't have to. The movies will fill you in pretty well.

Now, for what I thought.

1. This movie was beautiful! The colors, the wardrobes, the technology, the natural hair, the beautiful black people that starred in this film, it was amazing!

2. The women. OMG. The WOMEN! The strong women in the movie inspired me. Okoye makes me want to shave my hair back off. Nakia makes …

Pura Vida!

Hey y'all!

I keep making promises to do better about posting and then I break those promises. So I won't make any such promise this time!

I wanted to give you all a little run down on a trip I recently took (and LOVED). Two of my sisters and my two best friends and I decided to make a run for the equator. To Costa Rica! We started planning pretty early and got tickets and such purchased. We stayed in Jaco (pronounced Haa-CO). I'm still not sure I'm saying that correctly. You should have seen the looks on the immigration officer's face when I pronounced it as it is spelled. I'm pretty sure he called me an ignorant American.

Anywho, we flew from Charleston because they had the better fares and schedules at the time that we booked. Charleston to Miami to Jan Santamaria Airport. Something happened on our flight and me and my bestie were asked to move to another seat. It was actually better seats than what we had. Since we were so accommodating, we were given some l…

Soup(er) Sunday!

This past Sunday I hosted a Crafty with Canon party. I won the party through House Party (I love this site!).

Initially I was planning to do a few different finger foods. Well, the temperature dropped and I wanted soup. And chili. So I made both! And my sister also made a soup that was super delicious. I used my usual go to chili recipe, except I doubled up the seasonings because I didn't have a chili seasoning pack. I think it actually tasted better! I made it in my electric pressure cooker! It was so much faster and it tasted better than it usually does. I'm in love with my pressure cooker and would like another one. Anyone have one they want to give me?

Anyway, we had fun exploring the Canon Pixma printer and printing out photos and making cute little frames! But the food was really the star of the show! I'm going to link to all of the recipes because aside from small adjustments, none of them were my own!
