Girls Trip Movie Review

Go. See. This. Movie!

It’s raunchy. There are a lot of curse words. There are a lot of sexual references. There is a ton of comedy!

This is an adult movie. Don't take your kids to see this one!

I seriously don’t know the last time I laughed so hard! This movie is HILARIOUS from start to finish! I’m going to see it again!

Tiffany Haddish rules this movie! We know all of the other leading cast members and they hold it down. Tiffany Haddish delivers! She has been on the scene for a long time! I love her in the Carmichael Show, and I’m sad that it’s ending. I hope that the success of this movie gives her the big break she deserves.

I can NOT not mention the beautifulness that is Kofi Siriboe! His breakout role in Queen Sugar showed us all of his God given beauty…but something about all that chocolate in New Orleans!!! WOOSAH! He too has had several smaller roles but is now being recognized for having a lot of amazing...talent!

I also must acknowledge what seems like the resurrection of Larenz Tate. Where have you been hiding Larenz? You are still looking good though brother!

So what is it about? 4 college friends who have lost touch over the years due to life and all that comes with it reconnect. One is a popular author that has been invited to be the keynote speaker at Essence Fest and she decides to take her best girls with her. The Flossy Posse shows up and shows out! It's not without drama, but the love and laughter overpowers everything else. It teaches us to cherish our loved ones while we have them and to knuck if you buck when necessary!

My takeaways:
Apologize when you are wrong.
Don't leave your friends hanging.
Make up a dance routine with your girls because you never know when there will be a dance battle.
Trust your instincts and follow your heart.
You are in control of your own happiness. Don't give anyone else that power.
Have safe sex.
Enjoy your life. Have fun!
Go to New Orleans (Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest, Essence Fest or just a random Tuesday)!
When your friend bedazzles you a jacket, wear it!

I don't want to give it all away so just go see it! This movie delivers. It made me want to reconnect with all of my friends that I’ve lost touch with and fly down to the BOOT! Go see it if you haven’t, and take all of your girlfriends with you!

To any of my long lost gal pals that may be reading this, know that I love you and I miss you!

XOXO
RoJo

Black Panther: Movie Review

Please tell me y'all have seen the movie? If you haven't, don't read this post!

Let me give you a little bit of my back story on this Marvel Cinematic Universe. I am a Marvel fan. I don't read the comics, but the movies?! I'm here for them. Some of them are blah, but I watch them anyway. Why? Because usually they overlap and share stories. So, in preparation for the opening of Black Panther, I watched ALL of the Marvel movies in order of the stories, not the release date. I followed CNET's guide and it was pretty accurate. I did not watch the TV shows because I would still be watching. You don't have to. The movies will fill you in pretty well.

Now, for what I thought.

1. This movie was beautiful! The colors, the wardrobes, the technology, the natural hair, the beautiful black people that starred in this film, it was amazing!

2. The women. OMG. The WOMEN! The strong women in the movie inspired me. Okoye makes me want to shave my hair back off. Nakia makes …

Soup(er) Sunday!

This past Sunday I hosted a Crafty with Canon party. I won the party through House Party (I love this site!).

Initially I was planning to do a few different finger foods. Well, the temperature dropped and I wanted soup. And chili. So I made both! And my sister also made a soup that was super delicious. I used my usual go to chili recipe, except I doubled up the seasonings because I didn't have a chili seasoning pack. I think it actually tasted better! I made it in my electric pressure cooker! It was so much faster and it tasted better than it usually does. I'm in love with my pressure cooker and would like another one. Anyone have one they want to give me?

Anyway, we had fun exploring the Canon Pixma printer and printing out photos and making cute little frames! But the food was really the star of the show! I'm going to link to all of the recipes because aside from small adjustments, none of them were my own!

This was a big hit! It was my first tim…

2018: Happy New Year!

Hey y'all!

I pray that the New Year has found you all happy and healthy!

Do you all do the traditional "New Year" things like making sure your house is clean, all laundry is done and eat greens and black eyed peas?

For most of us southerners, this is tradition. We do it faithfully. Guess what? This. Year. I. Did. Not.

I've never frantically ran around trying to get things done anyway, but I would try to at least have the house in order when the New Year hits. This year though, we got back in town on the 30th. We were tired. On New Year's Eve we went to breakfast with friends and did a little grocery shopping. Then we rested. And all of my sisters decided my house was the place to bring in the New Year. The kitchen and dining areas were clean!

I do, however, eat my greens (collards for me) and black eyed peas. I fell into the electric pressure cooker craze in 2017. I actually bought the thing in 2015 and had never used it! I didn't get one of the top brands either.…
